E-Board Results and T-Shirt Design Competition

Congratulations to our new e-board members: Jenn Lee, Andrew Hood, Scotty Hancox, Brandon Witsaman and Priyanka Thitha! Thank you to everyone who ran and voted!

We are also having a t-shirt design contest! Designs must include the word ANCHOR along with the image of an anchor. Feel free to make it colorful and create any slogans or use quotes that you think are fitting! Submissions can be done on the computer or hand drawn. Send your designs to Emilee at and all submissions received before next Wednesday will be displayed during the meeting. Let your creative juices flow!

Starting Off the 2013 Academic Year with ANCHOR!

Summer flew by didn't it? It's time to get back into the swing of things and ANCHOR is getting ready for some amazing and fun events this semester! 

We are especially looking forward to reconnecting with our current members and inviting new members! Our first meeting is a Pop-Social on Wednesday, September 4th at 9:00pm in HON 148 (just behind the multipurpose room). At this mixer you'll enjoy popsicles, get to know the e-board and fellow members of the community, and learn more about what ANCHOR has to offer and why we want you to be a part of it!

We'll also be discussing the upcoming elections, so you'll definitely want to stop by if you are interested in a leadership role. If you are unable to attend the meeting, but still want to be involved, be sure to follow us on OrgSyncFacebookTwitter and this blog!

2013 Spring Elections

Interested in being a leader for ANCHOR? Applications for next year's Executive Board are now available. Please find the application in the documents section of our blog under "Election Materials." 

Applications must be submitted via email to by 8pm on April 2, 2013.

Elections will be held from April 3, 2013 to April 9, 2013.

Wrapping up the Winter 2013 Semester

It's crazy to think that the semester is almost over! ANCHOR will be hosting some great events to close out the semester that you won't want to miss:

3/29 - Sequence Showdown - MPR 3pm
Trivia challenge between Honors freshman sequences for current freshman and alumni. The winners will get a doughnut or pizza party!

4/2 - ANCHOR Carnival - MPR 7-9pm
Join us to play some fun games to help raise money for Challenging Heights in Ghana. Each game ticket is $0.25 or 5 tickets for $1.00. We are hoping to sponsor a child at Challenging Heights for a year, so all of the money we raise will go directly to that cause. Bring some friends and your money to donate!
**There will be no meeting on 3/27 so we can all attend the Meijer Lecture Series with Sir Ken Robinson in the Fieldhouse. **

Mr. ANCHOR Pageant

Who will be the first Mr. ANCHOR? Come find out this Friday, February 8th at 7:00pm in the Cook-DeWitt Auditorium. The guys will be answering some interesting Q&A, showing us their talent, and modeling their best Grand Valley attire. You don't want to miss this!

40% of each contestant's score will be based on how much money they raise for Helen DeVos Children's Hospital through our penny wars. Head to the Niemeyer lobby with your loose change and bills to get your favorite contestant some points. Nickels and Quarters have negative point values, so put those in the other contestants' jars! Help us donate and lead your Mr. ANCHOR to victory!

Change in Meeting Time

We have changed our meeting time to 9:30pm instead of 9:00 on Wednesdays in HON 148 (just past the Multi-Purpose room). This time change will start this week and continue for the rest of the semester, so if you have a 6-9 class you can join us! Hope to see you there!
